Woven vinyl wallcovering. A woven textile face on a vinyl build: wipe it clean and it keeps its colour in corridors and guest rooms. It shrugs off scuffs and scrubbing, does not soak up moisture, and hangs without marking the face. No mould, no seam lifting or curling, no yellowing.

Woven vinyl wallcovering in a fine textured weave, installed on an interior wall

Rolls, seams and the surface behind

Wallcovering comes in 200 cm rolls (±1%), 15 to 25 m long, at 2 mm total on a 0.3 mm PVC foam and 0.7 mm PET non-woven backing, 1,100 to 1,300 g/m². On a wall the join is a butt seam rather than a weld: the specification document names the adhesive family and the substrate preparation.

Where the covering goes onto a panel, the panel maker sets the substrate and the bonding method, and we supply the face. Tell us which case applies at the enquiry so the right document goes out with the sample.

Where this surface works

  • Hotel guest rooms and corridors The wall surface that has to keep its looks through constant use.
  • Offices, reception and meeting rooms A woven textile look with a wipe-clean face.
  • Retail, hospitality and public buildings Feature walls, backdrops and columns, and interiors where walls take daily wear.
  • Residential Living rooms, bedrooms, dining areas and hallways, including kitchens and bathrooms.

Which walls is wallcovering specified for?

Woven vinyl wallcovering is specified where a wall has to take contact and still look like a textile. In hotel corridors and lift lobbies it absorbs the scuffing at hand height that paint and paper cannot. In offices it carries a weave onto the walls behind reception so the floor and the wall read as one scheme. In retail it gives a calm surface behind merchandise without the fragility of a paper. In healthcare and education the wipe-clean face matters more than the texture: marks come off with a damp cloth rather than a repaint. It is also used on bathroom, laundry and kitchen walls over a sound, sealed substrate, because the material does not absorb damp. The build is a 1.0 mm woven vinyl face on either a 0.3 mm PVC foam plus 0.70 mm PET non-woven backing or a 1.0 mm PVC foam backing.

What this surface does well

  • Durability Scuffing and soiling do not show, and the face keeps its colour where a fabric-backed wall would fade.
  • Water-resistant Damp stays on the surface where a fabric-backed wall would soak it up.
  • Easy maintenance Everyday marks come off with a damp cloth, no specialist treatment.
  • Aesthetic appeal A woven textile texture with a contemporary hand, in many colours and patterns.

What do the tests show?

The performance that matters on a wall is abrasion, dimensional stability and fastness, and all three are tested. Abrasion resistance is over 20,000 rubs to ISO 12947-2 (Martindale), which is a contract-grade surface rather than a domestic one. Skew and bow is under 1% to EN 427, so a drop stays square and the pattern does not walk across a long wall. Colour fastness is tested to BS EN ISO 105-B02 and B-04 at grade 4 to 4.5, so daylight through a corridor window does not bleach one drop differently from the next. Reaction to fire is EN 13501-1 Cfl-s1 on a 4.1 mm construction, and the product carries CE marking under EN 15102:2007+A1:2011, Certificate of Conformity No. 157. Total weight is 1,100 to 1,300 gsm on the non-woven backing and 900 to 1,100 gsm on the PVC foam backing, so the heavier hanging option is the one to choose where the wall runs tall and a drop needs to hold its shape.

What matters on site

  • Professional fitting required texlyweave® wallcovering is a heavy woven fabric and should be hung by a fitter with heavy-fabric wallcovering experience. We supply a step-by-step installation guide with every order.
  • Wall preparation The wall must be clean, smooth, dry and sound. Strip old wallcovering and adhesive residue, sand and fill any bumps or hollows, then seal the surface with a universal wallcovering primer.
  • Two backing types PET non-woven backing for walls, or a 1 mm vinyl cushion backing for furniture veneering and soft-wall work. The woven face is the same on both.
  • Adhesive on the wall only Apply wallcovering adhesive to the wall and let it become thoroughly tacky, around ten minutes, depending on site conditions, before hanging. Test a small area first to see how much adhesive and open time your wall needs.
  • Trim and sequence Allow 5 cm top and bottom for trimming, cut 6–8 cm off the edge to get a straight line, and number the drops on the back so the sequence stays correct.
  • Judge colour before you cut Hang at least three drops before you assess colour and shading. Report any visible fault before cutting. Once the material is cut and hung, the quality is accepted.
  • Woven-character tolerance The weave can run slightly off-parallel to the edge: up to 1.5 in (38 mm) of bow or skew per direction is normal, and the yarn coating can produce light-and-dark shading that also shows at the seams.
  • Do not over-press When you smooth out bubbles, use a light hand. Too much pressure can push adhesive through the face and leave a permanent stain.

How should the drops be hung?

Everyday maintenance

  • Routine Wipe with a damp cloth. For marks, use a mild soap solution and wipe clean with water.
  • Spills Blot promptly with a soft cloth rather than rubbing hard across the weave.
  • What to avoid No scouring pads, solvents, bleach or steam. They dull or discolour the vinyl coating.
  • Vacuuming A soft brush attachment lifts dust out of the weave; keep it on the low setting.
  • Damp, not wet Keep the cloth damp rather than wet. Standing water at a seam can lift the adhesive.
  • Keep an offcut Retain a spare drop from the same batch: future repairs are far easier to make invisible.

How is a woven vinyl wall cleaned?

Routine care is a vacuum and a damp mop with a neutral cleaner: no waxing, no polishing, no stripping cycle.

Wallcovering: questions we get asked

Is texlyweave® wallcovering a wallpaper?

It is a woven vinyl wallcovering: a woven textile surface rather than a paper wallpaper, which is why it wipes clean and holds up where a fabric-backed wallcovering would scuff. In several markets the same material is specified as woven vinyl wallpaper.

Can I hang it myself?

We recommend an experienced heavy-fabric wallcovering fitter. The material is heavier than paper wallcovering and over-pressing can push adhesive through the face. Our installation guide covers substrates, primer, adhesive and trimming.

Which way round does it go on the wall?

With the non-woven backed version the backing goes against the wall. With the unbacked woven version, remember that the wall colour can show through the open weave, match the wall tone unless you want a contrast effect.

Why does the colour change slightly from one drop to the next?

The yarn is coated with colour, so many patterns show a light-and-dark shading that also appears at the seams. It is an inherent characteristic of a woven product, not a fault. Hang at least three drops before you judge the colour.

What adhesive should be used?

A wallcovering adhesive applied to the wall only, and left to become tacky before the drops are hung. We can share the adhesive specifications we have tested on request.

Is it suitable for bathrooms and kitchens?

The surface is water-resistant and wipes clean, which suits bathrooms, laundry rooms and kitchens. It is not a waterproof membrane, so the substrate still needs to be sound and sealed.

What sizes does it come in, and can I get samples?

200 cm wide and 15–25 m per roll, 2 mm thick. A4 swatches are available to qualified distributors and specifiers; samples are free of charge, with the courier at your cost (freight collect).
