Project

A corporate library floor, Korea

A corporate library in Korea, where the floor runs under fixed shelving and open study desks in one continuous surface.

The project at a glance

  • Interior — Corporate library, reading and study areas
  • Location — Korea
  • Surface — Woven vinyl flooring, striped construction, 4 mm total at 2,400 gsm
  • Why it suits the brief — Continuous surface, quiet underfoot, mop clean, EN 13501-1 Cfl-s1

What this interior demanded

A library is a room where the floor is asked to be quiet and to carry shelving that does not move again. Bollards and shelf feet concentrate load, so the specification is a dense woven face over a full backing rather than a loose-lay mat. Because the surface is continuous and cold-welded, there is no seam under the shelving line to open up when the room is cleaned, and no pile to hold dust at skirting level.

The colour story matters as much as the build in a corporate library: a striped weave lets the floor carry the room without competing with the book spines, and it hides the light soiling that a plain light floor shows first.

The same construction today

The build is unchanged: a 1.0 mm woven vinyl face on a 3.0 mm PVC foam backing, 4 mm in total at 2,400 gsm, supplied in 200 cm rolls and cold-welded on site. Colour fastness is tested to BS EN ISO 105-B02 and B-04 at grade 4–4.5, and the construction carries EN 13501-1 Cfl-s1.
